Parking Spot

Senior year, get ready.

Stretching (by Dr. Stephanie Eddleman)

She was taught to think within the box

Color inside the lines, do as she was told,

Obey the rules, don’t question authority

Don’t speak unless spoken to, be in subjection

Follow the straight and narrow, walk the line

Don’t make waves, don’t rock the boat

Pour oil on troubled waters, go with the flow

Keep the peace, don’t go against the grain

Don’t be at loggerheads or kick against the pricks

Get on the band wagon, join in the chorus

Sing the same tune, harmonize, chime in

And for a long time she did.

One day she woke up and shouldered and shoved

And pushed and expanded that box into a world.
